Crowd of people waiting to leave

The avondvierdaagse is a four day walking festival which is held in Meppel every year in early June. The first day was Monday the 8th this year. Reagan participated in the whole thing with lots of kids from all the schools in Meppel. In total there were 2300 kids!

First there was the wait on the Kerkplein, the main square in town, where some of the schools gathered. There was a great atmosphere as the kids were excited about the walk, being together at night, being allowed to eat sweets after dinner and the prospect of going to bed late. The weather was great, it was 22 degrees around the time they left at 18.30. Reagan, who is six years old, was walking the 5 kilometer walk.

A lot of people were waiting along the route to encourage the kids and there was a lot of clapping and shouting when they passed by. The kids looked really proud, it was great to see. The neighbours and I finally just sat around chatting and drinking coffee, enjoying the wonderful weather, until it was time to pick the kids up again. Reagan had had a great time but her feet were a little sore...
