I Couldn't Help Wine-ing
April 10, 2008
It seems the friends made in Alaska always lead to yet more good times. Last summer a fellow KBLer (that's Kenai Backcountry Lodge), Emily, was fortunate enough to have her parents for a visit. They are from Sonoma, California, and, upon hearing of my travel northward from San Francisco, were very kind in inviting me for a stay. The area is absolutely gorgeous and covered in grapvines. We enjoyed an amazing Thai-food dinner last night and today I got a great wine-business tutorial.
Emily's dad, Bill, makes wonderful port wines (Sonoma Valley Portworks) as well as imports wines from all over the world. I got a glimpse (and taste) of his business as well as many great lessons in the workings of wine. In the afternoon I toured the Berzinger Winery, one of the first biodynamic wineries in the world.
Although I could tarry here for probably a week or more, I mentally urge myself to continue on before I wake up one day in August with a pile of empty wine bottles scattered around me.
