Quite tired by the time we arrived
When we booked the holiday we were pleased that we had an 11.30am flight from London; it's almost the perfect time for a flight in my opinion, as it doesn't involve getting up early. However, on arrival at the airport it soon became apparent that the flight wouldn't be leaving on time, and we're now very skeptical as to whether it was ever planned to leave at the time advertised.
The flight was nominally a Cubana flight, although the aeroplane and crew were from a company called Euro Atlantic. We finally left five hours late, which meant lunch at the airport which was only slightly paid for by the vouchers we'd been given to compensate us for the delay. Our flight to Havana was via Holguin, at the eastern end of Cuba, where we touched down for a while before resuming the journey to Havana.
By the time we got to Havana it was pretty late, and we then had to stand around in the car park for ages waiting for our transfer to the hotel. This must have taken something like an hour, which was not impressive. We finally got to check in at the hotel over 23 hours after we'd left our front door that morning, which was much longer than we'd expected and left us feeling rather tired.
I was not that impressed with the quality of the room at the Hotel Nacional; it's supposed to be one of the top hotels in Havana (although it is an old hotel, rather than one of the many new identical looking hotels that we dropped other people off from the transfer bus), and I thought the room looked a bit tired.
