walking around Recoleta

Although I went to bed late, or early from the next day, I asked for a wake up call at 7:30am in order to go to the gym.

This was our last day in Buenos Aires. We were leaving the country at 4pm in order to fly to Santa Cruz. Happily it was our free day too. Now it was the opportunity to do some sightseeing. I have already gotten a map.

By 9am I was ready to start on walking around the city and get my magnet for my fridge. But my boss wanted to do a couple of phone calls.

La Casa Rosada - The Pink House (government house)
So I had idea. He could stay at the hotel doing the calls, while I’d take a walk to another neighborhood: “La Recoleta”. This neighborhood is constructed in a French style. Important artists used to live here. You can find a combination of art, nature and history here. I could have taken a cab from the hotel to Recoleta, but I wanted to explore the city, although it wasn’t much, so I decided to walk. I visited the “Del Pilar Basilica”, Alvear Avenue, and enjoyed the beautiful buildings, squares and parks.

I would have stayed longer, but I was worried about my boss and also my batteries were dead. So, against my principles I took a cab back to the hotel. I should say that the cabs aren’t expensive and are safe.

I met my boss and let him know, that I didn’t want to leave the city without visiting the city’s oldest historical monuments, which are located in Monserrat. I wanted to go shopping, but you can do it wherever and whenever. We took a cab to “Plaza de Mayo”. There we saw the Government House " called “Casa Rosada” (Pink House), Metropolitan Cathedral, City Hall, San Ignacio Church and also a protest.

It was almost noon and we had to be at the airport at 2pm, so we just went back to the hotel in order to do the check out and drive to the airport. We arrived to the airport with plenty of time.

It’s a shame I didn’t have time to know the city correctly. I must come back, that’s for sure. And it would be during this year. It’s a promise. ;-)
