Customised hearse in Chelmsford
Yesterday I went to Warren's house-party in Chelmsford. As usual, I took my camera; and as usual, I didn't get around to using it. But one curious thing happened. On the train to Chelmsford, Lou and I were discussing customised hearses, as you do; and half-an-hour later, walking from the station to Warren's house, what did we see but an amazing customised hearse! It looked as if it had been lowered, had twin exhausts, a steering-wheel made of chains, and a row of metal skulls across the front. Now, it can't just have been coincidence, can it? There must be greater powers at work, trying to tell us something ... Anyway, I thought that it was worth a couple of pictures, but they hardly seem to warrant a journal entry of their own, so I'm parking them here, notwithstanding that Chelmsford is nowhere near West Wickham.

I had a great time and debated whether to stay over, but in the end wimped out and left at 11ish, getting home at 2.30 with the aid of two night-buses out of London, EACH of which took 30 minutes to arrive. God, it was cold, especially as one of them had the windows open on the top deck. But I felt ok, as I'd been drinking good quality plonk all evening, and so was up this morning at about 8 o'clock, when the light seemed strangely bright and the world preternaturally quiet. A glance out of the window revealed why - a beautiful late snowfall such as I can hardly remember in London. I quickly took a few fairly ropey pictures from my bedroom window and the back door, just for the record; amazing when you consider that the month after next the nights start drawing in. It was good not to be faced with a long trek home via a transport system that is famously incapable of dealing with a few flakes of snow!
