Chapter 1 Red Rock Canyon Hike
April 5, 2008
The kickoff to the meetup started Saturday morning with a hike at Redrock Canyon...or should I say the photoshoot for the Trav "buddy" pinup of the month calendar! (LOL)...
I got to the Visitor's center and saw that RJ and I were the first ones there. That's a scary thought for whoever really knows me because I'm ALWAYS late for everything! It wasn't long before the convoy of the 3J express led by Melanie got there.
Once pit stops and parking lot photos were done we embarked on our hike (aka photoshoot LOL!). We were quite a sight to see looking like a cross between the United Nations and Japanese tourists! Judging by the puzzled yet admiring looks we got from other visitors I'd say we were a hit! (Do I smell a reality show concept here!?). Though we didn't cover much ground topographically we sure did cover quite the span of conversational topics such as...what is this extra "i" the Brits put into the word Aluminum or isn't it cool how they say Tube (tewwb) or call the cell phone a celly. We then reflected upon our regional ways of saying things in the US like cawfee (coffee), wauta (water), Hot Dawwwg (hot dog) or Toykee (turkey).
Out of all the "British" type accents the group I think thought the South African accent sounded the most sophisticated with Australian coming in as a close second.
It was also pondered whether Frau from the Austin Powers films truly represented the modern German woman or where the expression "Christ on a Cracker" came from??! Needless to say we did have quite a few laughs and enjoyed each others company while taking in the beautiful red rocks and desert scenery. Enjoy the pics and stay tuned for the next chapter...The Three Angry Wives Pub!
