Mumbai
March 7, 2008
I arrived in Mumbai, which to me was like a mix of NYC and LA. I probably shouldn't make comparisons, but I like to have a point of reference. This is India's financial capitol and the cinematic industry's hub. I went on a day tour and visited the Hanging Gardens, which were splendid; the Jain Temple, which was also beautiful; Gandhi's residence in Mumbai; the laundry village; Marine Drive; the university (as a future professor, this was amazing); the Gateway of India; and a few museums. After this long day, I unwinded with a late lunch at the cafe at the Taj Palace Hotel facing the Gateway of India. This hotel is simply stunning, and the staff were extremely nice.
I was in Mumbai for four days for a wedding, so I didn't get to sightssee that much as there were several wedding-related events to attend. But, attending the wedding allowed me to see how elaborate and beautiful Indian weddings are and interact with my friend's family members who live in India.
