Vegas Baby, Vegas...I mean Macau Baby, Macau

For those who don't already know...Macau is the only city in China (although technically still not fully governed by China and still has it's own currency) that gambling is legal. So as China races to up it's stature in world power game...it is toting Macua as the "Las Vegas of Asia" and is already claiming that it will be the bigger better and maybe naughtier version. I've lived in CA, USA most of my life...Vegas was a weekend gettaway, Macau has a long way to go.

Vegas Baby, Vegas...I mean Macau Baby, Macau

On my way by Ferry to Macau...very very Early.

So...Macau is like Vegas in the fact that it's got a couple world class casinos.  You've got your Venetian, MGM Grand, and even a Wynn.  You've got bars, gambling, and plenty of ATMs.  It's just missing something and you can't quite put your finger on it...!  And then you realize that the nice restaurants are empty, there are no Clubs with banging music piping throughout the casinos <cue Twilight Zone music...do do do...do>

It's starts to dawn on you...this is what Vegas would have been if they didn't make that huge push in the early 90s to clean up it's act and make it "a families Vegas."  Macau is for all the gambling addicted Asians that like to come with their business associates, buddies, or other male friends to gamble, then maybe gamble, then gamble some more.  When hungry, you order noodles to your table, so that you don't have to, you know, stop gambling.  Anyways...I think you get the picture.  :)

There is an upside though!  The coolest thing about Macau is it's history!  Macau is the oldest European Colony in Asia.  It was settled by the Portuguese a long long time ago.  So if you get out of the casinos long enough you find old Portuguese architecture and churches...amazing European restaurants and a weird mashup culture of China and Portuguese.

based on your pictures, it looks like it has a bunch of bright lights like vegas. but i got the gambling thing down, so i will make sure not to take my sister, since she loves to gamble.
