After graduating from college, we chose the obvious path of a one way plane ticket to mexico. Our only plan is to make one as we go.

livin the lazy life

Everyone says that when you come to Puerto Escondido, you always stay longer then you have intended. Well, this has proved very true for us, as we have decided to stay for the month of October. We are now spending our nights working at a bar in town, and our days at the beach. This lifestyle suites us quite well for now, as we have spent the last 17 years of our life in school and gosh darnit, we deserve a little relaxation and fun! So, we will put aside our political science degrees for now and live a beach bum lifestyle. Sorry mom and dad! ;)

ahh, the coast.

Arrived on the beautiful pacific coast on Sunday and are enjoying the change in lifestyle.  Beaches, swimming, surfing, drinking, eating and all of lifes other pleasures contained within a few miles of shoreline.

There are enough beautiful hotels and hostels in Puerto Escondido to be very picky. This hotel is very beautiful, nice pool, hammocks galor, a bar, etc...however, the owners are very unwelcoming and will give you an extremely difficult time if your plans change and you need a refund. It is also overpriced for the very average rooms. They made our brief stay there very unpleasant and sent us running back to our original hostel, where we were welcomed back with open arms. Lesson learned here- Do not pick a hotel when you are hungover, as you will probably take a glance at the refreshing pool and hand over your money without thinking too much about it.

Go estrella! you have provided us with hours of delight eating club sandwich after club sandwich...sin carne, por supuesto.

Alright. In Puerto Escondido, everyone surfs, or at least tries it. So, rather then looking like idiots, we decided to take a surf lesson. We took the advice of a girl at our hostel who raved about this guy named Rene from a place called Central Surf. It was $400 pesos apiece, which comes with a three hour surf lesson, hours of unwelcomed public groping and a few smooches on the ass. If you have ever wondered how it feels to be molested on a moving surf board while waves are crashing down over your head, wonder no more. Rene is your man. Word to the wise, ladies. There are female surf instructors that will gladly give you a lesson...without having to constantly slap wandering hands away from your body.

Whoa that sucks! Too bad because surfing should be so fun! Thanks for the warning and if you are ever in the LA area my friends and I can give you free, non-harassing surf lessons.

Ah, the Blue Station. Who could have guessed that a few shots of mezcal with the owner of the bar would lead to a job offer that would look stellar on any resume? haha. This bar has it all- cheap drinks, good music (ok, decent music...ok, a bit below average music), naked women painted in florescent colors on the bathroom stalls (the work of a true artist, no doubt), a "beer bong challenge", constant salsa dancing, a game called Cubierta in which the loser has to eat a scorpion, a theme night entitled "horny monday" (which, for the record, we did NOT allow to occur while we were working there), surfing videos (my favorite was called "Faces of Death, VolumeII"), and a group of wonderful, funny, and welcoming people that work there. Well, work is kind of a relative term at the Blue Station. But we were all technically "employed" at the Blue Station and loved every minute of it.
