Zocalo where everyone has set up camp to protest
Our tour of southern Mexico has now brought us to Oaxaca City. The first thing we noticed about the city is the wonderful climate, nestled between mountains and located well above sea level is the perfect equation for a sigh of relief from me. I even put jeans on today! This city is much larger then the previous ones we have visited and we have already been lost two or three times. (I blame lonely planet for this problem since our hostel was listed under an old address in the last edition as I hold my fist in the air and shake it frustratingly) Good thing for taxis, ay? Anyway we have spent the last few days roaming around the city, talking to local folks about the current political situation dominating the Zocalo, and eating delicious comida from the numerous cafes and restaurants. We have also visisted the seemingly endless cultural museum as well as various local markets and managed to get lost in those as well. Since it appears we will need some time to acclimatize ourselves to the cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, art galleries, eateries, protests, and rich cultural history that is oaxaca, we are in no hurry to leave anytime soon.
