Trujillo, Peru

So I've decided to spend 5 months travelling in South America starting in Quito in late September and ending up in Buenos Aires in late February 07. How will it go? What will happen in between? I don't yet know, but you're all invited to find out..

Trujillo, Peru

Trujillo is the second or third biggest city in Peru (depends if you ask someone from here or Arequipa!),.  It´s a good base for exploring the nearby ancient ruins or making a day-trip to the beach, though there are some pleasant buildings to see too.

The most notable feature was how friendly the people are.  You only have to sit down on a park bench, or wander round a little aimlessly, and a local will start talking to you.  At first I was typically British and suspicious - what do they want what are they trying to sell?  But they just wanted the opportunity to practice their Spanish and seemed genuinely interested in where I´d been and was going to.  This led to an unplanned drinking session when I re-bumped into one of the guys I had met early in the day.  He was a tour guide so I signed up to one of his tours for the next day, then had a few beers and cheap rum.  It was getting late and I was tired from travelling so I made my excuses and just as I approached my hostal (and sleep) I met another of the guys from the griup I´d spoken to before and he invited me to his family shop where 2 bottles of cheap red wine were opened and offered to me.  What a combination, and I can tell you getting up for the tour the following day wasn´t much fun either!
