Arrived safely
Hello. I´ve arrived safely, no problems, just a little tired after 21 hours travelling! The flight was fine, beautiful in places when we finally crossed the Atlantic and reached South America. Looking out of the window onto the peaks of the Andes, the tallest in Venezuela snow-capped, was beautiful. The descent into the airport at Quito is both amazing and a little frightening. You circle the volcano and then rapidly find yourself parallel with street traffic without any view of the impending runway. Recommended as a one-off experience, but was bracing myself just before impact and giving thanks that I´ll be flying out of Buenos Aires instead!
Anyway, I´ve reached that point of tiredness where everything is a bit numb and the brain is dead. Still, I´ve found it the best tonic for the extreme fear that would otherwise have gripped me as I realised I had committed myself to 5 months of the unknown.
Oh, and apologies for any typos - the keyboards here are slightly different (new letters such as ñ) added unexpectedly. At least it explains how the Ecuadorians I e-mailed before my trip began could get the accents right so easily.
Best wishes.
