This morning Mauricio and Marcela drove me around the city to see local sites including the Basilica. Afterwards we went to the top of Nutibara Hill where there is a mini version of a typical village called Pueblito Paisa and great views of the city. Along with the village were many souvenir stalls. Nutibara Hill is roughly in the middle of Medellin as the town is all around it. The hill was named after Cacique Nutibara, an indigenous chief.
Afterwards Marcela and I were dropped off at the Oviedo shopping centre, where we had lunch and wandered around and I bought more shoes and Marcela a couple of blouses. It’s a very nice shopping centre with mainly good quality goods. As there was time for still more shopping, we took a taxi to El Almacen Grande el Exito, which is like a large Target. I bought a cheap top as there were clothes in larger sizes.
When we got home there was a note in the door from Mauricio to say that he and Maria Clara had gone to pick up his new car, so great excitement.
Mauricio had arranged for us to have dinner with Andres and Monica; Andres was previously a student at UWA and I had met Monica and him in Perth, at picnics with Lau and Seba. We went to dinner at a very nice restaurant, Hato Viejo, so that I had the opportunity to eat typical Colombian food, although there was a range of international foods too.
