The first picture is for you Judy, yes, I've finally seen it; that old friend of yours. On the menu at Casa de la Luna, Gordon Blue, Pechuga de pollo enrollada con salsa blanca. Otherwise known as Cordon Bleu, stuffed chicken breast with white sauce.
The driver (organised by the agency and already paid for by me) is supposed to pick me up at 9:30 but he doesn’t arrive. I catch a taxi. Linea bus leaves at 10ish and we arrive at Piura at 1. I have the window seat again as chosen yesterday.
I check out the room, which is very nice and then take a cab to the bus terminal to organise a ticket for tomorrow, Impresa Loja. I decide to buy two tickets, to avoid getting a bad travel partner. It’s an all day trip. Two tickets set me back NS56, AUD20. I go for a walk to the local markets and am able to buy a cold drink, often they’re at room temperature.
We go to the cathedral built by the Spanish in the 16th C and then return to Piura where we go to the main square and Raoul takes me to the tourist information centre and they actually have some information in English! I notice that there is a museum nearby where the Peruvian hero of the War of the Pacific, Admiral Miguel Grau, used to live and I want to go there.
We return to the hotel, then I go for a short walk and later have a meal at the hotel, sitting next to the pool. It’s a warm, slightly humid night. The voucher finally comes through at around 9 pm. The agency has paid for the room. I am talking to the manager, Oscar, who speaks very good English. He invites me into his office and we have a long chat which is very interesting. He laments that most Peruanos don’t have energy or drive to be educated or advance in their careers.
Hotel Costa del Sol, Piura, USD53, single with ensuite, wifi, pool etc.
