Desert Storms

I've spent the last 12 months trying to figure out how to stuff the next 12 into one, cartable backpack. This blog is documentation of my attempted life as a nomad. Here's to my summer of George...

Desert Storms

the infamous dust gales
We left the comfort of the sound stage for the wind and dust of the desert. Our art department built a full-scale diner and movie set about 30 miles south of Santa Fe, in the middle of nowhere New Mexico. We lathered on sun block during the days and bundled up for the bitter nights, with an average 40 degree difference between the two. The rain was sporadic, but the wind was unfailing. It could obliterate all visibility with it's cargo of dust. Thankfully we came prepared with masks and goggles. It wasn't the highest point of fashion on the show, but it spared some of the misery. We weathered these conditions for about 2 weeks, with the majority being night shoots. There's something very odd about getting done with work at 7 in the morning. It definitely took it's toll on my contact with the outside world. As if that hasn't been hindered enough already. I'm sorry friends. I had to play with dust devils.
