Etosha Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

Overlanding from Cape Town (South Africa), through Namibia, Botswana, and finish in Vic Falls (Zimbabwe). Make my way back to Maun (Botswana) to do an Earthwatch program with Nile crocodiles. Make my way back to Cape Town. Go up the coast to Hermanus if I have time.

first game drive - Etosha National Park

cheetah; cheetah park, namibia

our first game drive was here and lucky anna and i got the front seats of the truck on this day. it was so exciting for me seeing the animals for the first time in the wild its a little bit like seeing dinosaurs, because you wait, you imagine what it would be like, so many times in your head before you actually see them in front of you. cos you've seen them so many times on tv and in magazines. watching giraffes grazing just outside the truck window is really magical. i've got heaps of great pics so i'll be really upset now if i lose them all! trying to think what i can say in 3 mins. a few of us sat around the water hole til late at night to watch the animals come down to drink. etosha was hot but not as dry as the sossusvlei.

the best part was seeing a bull elephant come right up to the fence. i can't tell you what this moment was like, he was right infront of me - a wild bull elephant! he was so close i have photographs of his eyes. its so cool this trip guys, i'm really not ready to come home, lucky i still have 4 more weeks to go! cya

Etosha really is beautiful. I was there 2000, and still remember it as one of my fav. places.

Take care!
