Back in Cape Town

Cape Town Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

Overlanding from Cape Town (South Africa), through Namibia, Botswana, and finish in Vic Falls (Zimbabwe). Make my way back to Maun (Botswana) to do an Earthwatch program with Nile crocodiles. Make my way back to Cape Town. Go up the coast to Hermanus if I have time.

Back in Cape Town

Yep, I have made it. I survived Jo'burg, just. You know, even my own mother will tell you that I am the most organised person when it comes to flights. Flying from Maun to Jo'burg was fine. I was a tad worried about the time inbetween transit at Jo'burg, as I had to pick up my bags and get through customs etc, but other than that it went smoothly. But my flight from Jo'burg to Cape Town. Man, it is the first time I actually thought I might miss my plane. Never ever have I cut it so fine. I got my bag at the airport relatively quick but then realised South Africa has the same silly customs procedure as Australia and I had to declare the silly baskets I bought... so I only realised half way through when I was in the nothing to declare line, and when I changed lines I realised I had to fill in a customs form. I have never been so disorganised in my life. Anyway I filled that out, partially, then one of the customs guys took it from me, I said I don't think I've completed it but he looked at me and said "it's fine, just go through". So, lucky for me he was cool! So I got out, and then it was the usual "taxi? taxi?"... then I found out domestic departures were in a whole different building! So I had to depart from the sanctuary of the airport and more or less run to this other building. After about a hundred escalators I finally reached the domestic departures and I arrived just in time for boarding. Lucky for me they were a little late anyway, but geez I was sweating! Getting stuck in Jo'burg! The one city I have no interest in getting stuck in! Murder capital of the world yada yada, any way it was all fine and I would like to publicly praise Air Botswana and South African Airways for being lovely and not losing and/or stealing my baggage! I was so, so happy - you should have seen my face - when I saw my bag come out on the conveyor belt. And other than the cacophony of screaming babies it was a really good flight. Good meal, CHOCOLATE for desert which I feel like I haven't had properly (i.e. before it melts) in years. Yep. Good words for Air Botswana and South African Airways!

It's summer but the temperature is a bit cooler here, I don't know if its just because its night. But I sort of stepped off the plane and a brisk breeze struck me in the face and I sort of went what the hell, why is it cold! ANyway it's a welcome change to the heat! I have a few things I want to do here before I leave. I have yet to see Robben Island and Table Mountain, so, they're at the top of a few activities I would like to do... anyway. That's all from me for now. Lots of updates because I'd been out of contact for that little while! enjoy the pics.
