Ten days in the world's most fascinating country
May 30, 1999
Between my junior and senior year at West Virginia University, I had the opportunity to study the history and economics of Cuba, not only by sitting in a classroom in Morgantown, but by actually going to Cuba. It truly was an experience of a lifetime, and I'm very fortunate to have been able to go. In a nutshell, we spent some time at the beach (Playa de Santa Maria), we toured Havana (Capitolio, Universidad de la Habana, el Morro, Old Havana, el Malecon, and many other places), and we visited a cooperative outside of Havana. We also saw a Cuba v. Venezuela volleyball match, toured a biotechnology institute and chatted with some of the locals. Conversations with them were always intriguing. When I get the chance, I'll write more about this incredible trip.
