This mornin we weer up early to finish packing before our 10:35 flight to Cairns. It wasnt too bad as we only had to be at the airport half an hour before take off. The Virgin Blue flight was only 2 hours and we had a special passenger on board.....Father Christmas! We landed in Cairns to see that it was overcast, which apparently we have to get used to as it is the rainy season. It could rain everyday until March or none at all. We met a guy called Taylor, from Atlanta, Georgia at the airport who had nowhere to stay and decided to come with us to the Calypso Inn. He's travelling on his own and seems nice although i have noticed that other backpackers/travellers are very cynical. The Calypso Inn is fantastic. We walked along the esplanade and into town for a loko around. We bought more souvenirs....and then booked a day Great Barrier Reef Tour for tomorrow and i dont think i've been this excited for anything else so far! We then went to the DIPPIN DOTS store. Anybody who has tasted these delicious little balls of ice cream will understand our delight when we stumble across a whole shop dedicated soley to them. WEwere then given a lesson in how to eat them properly.....stick your tongue in and let them hold on. Back at the backpackers the atmosphere was lively. There are so many people and a bar and pool. There are also two happy hours, one at hald 5, then there is the all you can eat buffet for $8, then another happy hour. We played a lot of pool and i have to say that Whitey beat me for the very first time. Im sorry to lose my undefeated title but that was only once in some 3 years of battle! We met a really nice couple called Laura and Chris from Leeds. They are travelling and working for a year after uni and we chatted for ages. We might be going out with them tomorrow or wednesday night. After happy hours Whitey and i got int he pool which was really warm. We played a little rugby and Whitey entertained us with his diving which is actually worse than his swimming! Eventually Taylor and MIchaela (RHYME) got in to join us. The swim was really refreshing and good fun but i am quite tired now and we have a half six start tomorrow so am going to bed....Dont forget the
