On the upside: I rode my first few waves! Whohaa! Took me a few hours with a surf coach, 2 more day of swallowing salt water and being 'machine washed' by the waves but it's so cool when you speed along looking really cool in the surf :-). Managed to sign 'hang loose' to the people on the beach and everything :-D
And Kuta can be quite nice for a night out, although in central Kuta it seemed only a few places were pretty busy. Met TB 'coffeefairy' for some inside info on the Philippines and that was really great, my first TB meet & greet :-). Some of the guys I met on Gili Trawangan were also here and it was great to hang around with Mike, Lucy and Kate, cool to meet people on your travelling that you can share your experiences with :-)
Through Lucy I found a place which was bit away from all the confusion (Mekar Jaya on Jl Benesari if you want to know :-), nice, cheap and quiet with a lush garden. Only downside was when a 'dishonest' woman decided to set up her knock shop in the bungalow next to mine. The top part of the windows are only mosquito netting and being an involuntary listener to her business wasn't my idea of a quiet evening at home :-/
