Aix-en-Provence Wedding
September 9, 2001
As I mentioned in my previous blogs, I was invited to a hotel wedding on my last night in Aix-en-Provence. I was sitting at the bar having a nice conversation with these 2 girls from Sweden when all of a sudden in walks Phillip....
"Hey, you're an American aren't you" in a very drunken manner and French/English voice. He could barely stand...
"Yes I am"
I explained to him that I was and I was leaving tomorrow to head home for America. He insisted I must spend my last night in France drinking good French wine and attend a French wedding, and a few other unmentionable things I should do with the Swedish girls I was chatting up. :-)
So I looked to my friend working at the hotel and he gave me that all knowing 'its okay mate, go for it' nod, and that's when things got crazy. Since my friend worked at the hotel I knew the wedding was taking place since the previous day, but had no idea what lay behind those double doors. I could hear the noise in my room on the 2nd floor across the lobby. In some brief moments of reliving this experience, a small part of me wishes I had head for the hills running!
But seriously, they were a great group of people, very very very drunk, whilst I was very very sober. I later found out they were all members of a local Vespa scooter club, and having owned 2 of them, we had plenty to talk about. They brought me into their Wedding, took photos of us at the table, forced me to dance with his Mom, her Mom, the Swedish girls, and who knows else those women were! I had a great time honestly and it really was a nice end to an amazing experience over that past 3+ weeks. The hospitality and friendship those people showed me on that night was exactly like my entire trip. Viva la France!
