Bordeaux
The next stop on our intinerary was Bordeaux. Our ancestors were from a small town named St. Fort sur Gironde in the Charentes-Poitou region. Bordeaux was the closest area that we could get to by train. This town was so small that we honestly could not find a way to get out there without renting a car. For a brief moment, I thought about driving out to this location, but decided that driving in France would not be the best idea. Let me explain. I'm a city (Atlanta) driver so that part of the equation was not a problem. The drivers in France scare the bloody hell out of me! At this point in our journey, I had ridden in enough taxis to know that if we drove anywhere someone in our car would probably die.
So to make this long story short, we didn't make it to St. Fort sur Gironde. Instead we shopped like mad & ate as many cannelés as possible. Must say that shopping in Bordeaux is fabulous! If you go check out the Rue Sainte Catherine which is the longest pedestrian street in Europe. Should also check out the shops on Cours G. Clemenceau, Allees de Tourny and Cours de l'Independance and bag yourself some haute couture!
