and where is that? in hoi an of course, the ping yao of vietnam, international cheapo made-to-fit tailor center, the city where everything would be so nice if only the motos would be banned as well instead of only cars

i tried the open tour bus (sinh cafe) for my hue - hoi an leg. since hoi an does not have a train station and the trip is a short hop i thought it's worth a try. the scenery on this trip is absolutely amazing! sea to your left, mountains & rice fields to your right. the tourbus was quite nice, better standard than what i had with magic in new zealand, no toilets though. reminded me a lot of new zealand, big bus and nice scenery going past... bus was only 1/3 full, so loads of space available. even some vietnamese people on the bus which is not surprising as the ticket is absolutely dirt cheap, which brings me to the next point: 2 commission stops, but not too bad at all. first one was at a beach resort so 20 minutes of chilling at the beach and cooling down next one at some caves which was a bit over the top, but nobody cares if you just hang around in the bus, they even turned aircon on for the wait.

arrived in hoi an where a guy with me name on a paper jumped on board of the bus.. "marco, please sit in the bus, it will take you directly to the guesthouse" - nice, i like pre-booking. the dai long hotel is quite nice... i went for the cheaper windowless prison cell room which was a mistake in retrospect hehe. but not too bad as they have (unadvertised) free wlan and cable tv in the rooms.

hoi an is beautiful. it's a cute little town with loads of green around and a beach 5km away (that i will visit tomorrow, i was busy at the tailor's so far hehe). very touristy though, the main streets follow this pattern:

souvenir shop
tailor
art gallery
souvenir shop
tailor
art gallery
restaurant

... etc
