chiang khong is the thai border town at the thai/laos border crossing and is basically one long street with banks, guesthouses and immigration/boat landing. so who would stay here unless he has to? me of course!

checked into the bamboo riverside guesthouse, hopped into a 100baht bungalow and enjoyed the view from the deck chairs overlooking the mekong river into laos. best view in a long long time, beats pai by far!

used the day to get some money (running around with a big chunk of cash now, hello thieves, do you read this?), bought toiletries to be safe after the 'interesting' deodorant experience in china, sent some long due mail, chatted with other travellers and relaxed in the guesthouse otherwise

unfortunately rivers in tropical areas have a bad side effect: bugs & mosquitos everywhere! my ankles look like in the pantenal again and i get eaten alive where ever i go. but this time i'm armed with tiger balm, the good-for-everything-remedy that's very popular in se asia. it keeps them down a bit thank god.

the speciality of the guesthouse is.... drumroll... mexican food! who would expect that in a border town? food was expensive but oh so delicious! exactly what i needed before heading into laos where food is everything but what i eat or like...
