from north to south

time to say good bye to the north island with high expectations for the south - this is supposed to be the 'real new zealand' with postcard scenery everywhere... and sheep of course!

let's see.. after wasting a lot of time on the north island (especially taupo...) the south has to be explored rather quickly in two weeks since all the flights out of christchurch are booked out for 3 weeks after my planned flight on the 16th - which means i'm either stuck for 3 more weeks in the most expensive travel country ever or i have to move fast... easy decision!

anyways... the last night in wellington was... interesting! boxed wine and heaps of uk folks around are always a good start into a hell of a hangover - and it was crazy.. i'm too old for nights like this but we had fun. half of the group blacked out somewhere around midnight and interesting stories were heard the next day hehe

no time for sleep though as the ferry left at 8:25 to picton. the ferry is quite luxurious with loads of sun decks and entertainment facilities - which i unfortunately couldn't make good use of as i was lying dead in my deck chair and hoping for better times - at least the sea wasn't as rough that day

scenery on the cruise down is quite amazing though and what i got a glimpse of was a good warmup for the south island... eye candy non stop surely seems to become true

picked up by the magic bus in picton the first stop on our way was a... wine distillery tour! great...

survived even that and arrived in nelson, a strange little english style town. nightlife was awful and so it was great to regain some strength for the next 2 weeks
