mosquitos, more mosquitos and other fierce creatures....
December 15, 2006
ok... im not a big fan of wildlife trips... but this was a bit too much of wild life (i.e. too many mosquitos) 3 days of mosquito bites, heat & humidity
coming down from the altitude & mild climate of bolivia, the heat is the first thing that blows you away in brazil... getting out of the airplane, sweat all over the body... and mosquitos... we thought there were many of them, but little did we know how many of those beasts are waiting for usd in the pantanal, the huge wetland
it was not as bad as it sounds, though... on the boat trips we spotted tons of crocodile-thingies, monkey and birds... under our accomodation there was even a small anaconda
but the price i paid was high, just as a quick glimpse of what my body looks like:

(not every part looks like that, i just forgot to put insect repellent on that spot...)
and i finally got my south america souvenir, a nice handcrafted (with my tooth-choosing and string-holding) neckless... now i can imagine some adventerous stories how i got that crocodile-tooth!

simply amazing were the sunsets over the river next to our camp, pure red!

and last but not least.. i was on a horse for the first time! it didnt throw me into the river but it had a bit too much character for me: we were never on the same path as the rest of the group (i.e. through the bushes/trees with my head instead of the clear path...)
