actually a fjord and not a sound, milford is a beautiful place a few hours drive away from queenstown and a must do while here!

the bus ride gets better as you get near milford sound: you drive through a deep valley with waterfalls left and right (if it was raining the days before as it did for us) - amazing! luckily rain stopped but we still had some clouds above us

it's fascinating how commercialized milford is, even compared to the ultrahigh tourist density anywhere here in new zealand - bus loads of asian tourists were around us all the time - the tourist office for milford sound seems to make good marketing over there :-)

the more interesting part of the journey is the cruise through the fjord; even bigger waterfalls, higher mountains and the beautiful sea - absolutely stunning! the wind blowing in your face on the sun deck is similar to the skydive - it almost blew my contacts out of my eyes... btw, best thing about a round the world trip is the added conversationalist toolset, e.g. "like when i was skydiving..." or "when i met this nice girl in brazil..." - it's like celebrity name dropping hehe

anyways! back in town at 8:30 pm, 2 hours later in the minus 5 ice bar.. another stupid thing off my 'what i have to do in life" checklist hehe... and the evening ending once again in the world bar - almost as bad a place as shooters in wellington

decided not to do the canyon swing today, my budget for new zealand is as unbalanced as the us government's - that's a lot of pasta meals in sydney & japan to get back on track :-)
