i arrived in china!
and beijing is everything i thought it to be: one big communist city - everything is HUGE, especially the public place in front of the forbidden city is just enormous... didn't see any tanks driving over people, though... only cyclists trying to do the same (one got run over by a car just as i walked by)
my hostel is... underwhelming for being the best in beijing according to lonely planet and hostelz.com... but well, no more japan standard, no it's getting rough and i am not allowed to complain hehe
changed my plans for mainland asia totally after freezing my ass off here in beijing... mongolia is off the list for the moment since i want to do it the right way: on horseback and in tents... but not with -20 degrees.
so my plan looks roughly like this at the moment:
3 days beijing
then over 2 weeks or so down to shanghai
to xian
from there the tibet train to lhasa
touring around tibet & nepal
then comes the big decision if i do india or return to china... but i wont decide now - one step after the other :)
ah and china IS disgusting: the spitting really is a problem around here as everyone seems to be in a competition to constantly spit in the most disgusting way possible. and everything is dirty - but not in the hong kong way i like unfortunately. it will take some time to get used to china it seems. also the police presence is crazy - every 10m someone gets searched
