ilha grande

rom foz we flew to rio where we had a first glimpse of the city... not
a good one, since the way from the airport to the bus terminal is not
that scenic 
a 3 hour bus trip away from rio is ilha grande, the beach vacation location of many cariocas! the ferry from angra dos reis takes about an hour and takes you to the little paradise ilha grande is: lodges, small hostels & restaurants everywhere, no cars and tons of natural beaches covered with forest and white sand
not much happened during the 2 full days there: beach, sun and a boat trip.. typical vacation stuff, but it was great to reload batteries! we also visited lopes mendes, one of the top 100 beaches (former top 10 beach even), but it was not as impressive as i imagined it... but certainly worth a visit, even though you have to do a boat trip and walk through the forest to get there
