colca valley
November 15, 2006
out of arequipa we started for a 2-day trip into colca valley with a local guide. the bus ride was 4 hours through a beautiful scenery and one of the stops was on the highest point of the pass on 4900m o.s. - which is a lot higher than what is standing around in switzerland
with the help of loads of coca tea altitude sickness was after the experience in quito no longer a problem except for being short-breathed while walking.
we arrived at our beautiful little hotel near a town in the valley where we could make first contact with alpacas, basically a cute version of the lamas, cute room keys and the gorgeous scenery of the valley during a short walk around the area.

i'm really frustrated about the alpacas... i always found sheep to be the cutest animal on earth, but alpacas are a close runner-up, especially with their posing abilities:

the day was ended with a short swim in the local thermal bath, which is tourist-speak for a heated open air swimming pool.... nevertheless, the hot water was really nice as it gets quite cold on that altitude
