after the surprisingly cheap tokyo and hong kong now it's time to finally go back into south american like costs

my hostel in beijing costs about 11 chf / day for the most expensive dorm room.

but back to the 'expensive' hong kong for a second: like tokyo i cannot understand why it has a reputation of being expensive. it might be more expensive than other asian cities, but its a fairly developed first world city but much much cheaper than new zealand or even rio de janeiro! my fav restaurant around the corner of my hostel in causeway bay, which was very nicely decorated and has tv screens for two sitting rows (pics will follow) has a chinese/hongkong food range from 20 to 40 hkd including drink

i never paid more than 10usd in total for breakfast, lunch & dinner in hong kong

the bakeries are everywhere and first class! you get a wide range of sweet breads, sandwiches, hot dog thingies etc. you can get a sandwich & donut lunch for around 2usd there

hostel costs are about the same as in new zealand and i stayed at probably the best hostel in hong kong.
