irst title i have to write in capital letters, for a reason: it's true! lake tekapo is the most fascinating, beautiful, relaxing and untouristy place i've visited so far in new zealand.

there is a beautiful blue lake, a small town, charming hostels and a mountain with a breathtaking view and an observatory on top

i cannot understand why real estate hasn't kicked off yet - this place is gorgeous! and the zoning on this side of the lake seems to be in place as there are some motels and hostels around... ok, water temperatures of 8-10 degrees is not an ideal swimming environment - but who would dare to touch perfect water like that anyway? this is the view you get for a 20 nzd dorm bed:

and, after my previous rant about new zealand tourists, great people at the hostel, too! the ups and downs come fast here :-)

hiked up the hill next to the lake today and was hit by surprise how flawless and endless the view is from up there: 360 degrees of mountains, lakes, traces of former glaciers, etc... unbelievable!

a rich sky during the night adds to the perfect nature experience out here (hence the observatory up there...)

anyway... nobody should ever, for whatever reasons, miss this place! the absolute highlight so far! and probably the best pictures i've ever taken
