Obnoxious Tourists & Dylan is Sick - Playa Del Carmen, Mexico
Well we took off from Huatulco airport on January 8th, its airport was hilarious, it looked more like a resort, with coffee shops and straw roofs. We transfered in Mexico City and arrived in Cancun around 4.30. After a 45 minute bus ride we finally got to Playa Del Carmen, found somewhere to eat and chilled for a bit. The first thing we noticed about Playa Del Carmen was the fact that there were as many white people as Mexicans, which somewhat disappointed us, because we loved being in real Mexico (Puebla, Oaxaca) and seeing the way the Mexican people live. However, the beaches here and water here are supposedly worth the trip, so it will have to suffice. Our hotel is on the main plaza street with vendors and shops set up everywhere, but our room was far enough back that it was quiet and comfortable, and for 65 US a night an insano bargain in a place where rooms can cost 400-500US a night. The first night we went to a club called Alux (pronounced Aloosh), it was an underground cave and disco/lounge, crazy and cool but not busy as it was a Monday, wish i could go on
a weekend, but we´ll be gone. After that we went to Carlos and Charlies (another bar, that is all across Mexico and pretty crazy) we had some drinks with a some people from Israel, and called it a night.
The next day it poured like no other, sucks cuz i need to improve the tan some more. Dylan wasn´t feeling to hot, so he slept the afternoon away, while i went out and bought some gifts and a couple shirts for myself. We relaxed at night and chilled at Carlos N Charlies again.
Today the 10th, we got up bright and earlier had some breakfast, and headed for the beach. Laid on the beach for 2 and a half hours, was nice (28C), but windy, but man was the water beautiful, bright turquoise (see pics). After the morning on the beach, we headed for grub at 1, and headed back to the beach at 2:30 for another 2 hours. Now i am updating the travel blog, tonight we are going to a club that everyone has recommended called Bali, i´ll let you know how it is later.
All in all Playa Del Carmen is fun, cool, and good for shoppers and people looking to get their feet wet in Mexico, however I enjoy the real Mexico much more, the amount of abnoxious
North Americans here is ridiculous (loud and rude). We are heading to Cozumel which is also touristy but not like here, its quieter and hopefully we can do some scuba and/or skydive.
Hmmm...funny things that have happened, seeing a fat American lady dragged down the sidewalk through crowds of people on something a horse should be pulling, however it was a skinny Mexican man who had to drag her sorry as*...like come on, his life isn´t hard enough all ready, learn to walk, thats why you have feet. We had our second and third games of pool against other people, they were from Baltimore, Maryland, and were extremely pleasant and great people...we severly romped on the first game and took a loss on the second to the second couple, whom the wife was unreal at pool, she was making shots that could put her on TSN, sick, but fun to watch.
Oh ya forgot...another thing, i think between me and Dylan, we have been offered, weed, ecstacy, heroin, coke...and women, to buy on
the streets from random vendors all over this place, what a gong show. The one Mexican dudes response after we told him we don´t smoke weed, ¨Your from Canada and don´t smoke weed, what? Are you crazy? Ah man...you want blow (Cocaine) instead?¨, haha, no thnx...yup crazy times here.
The last night in Playa Del Carmen we hit up a sidestreet Mexican bar called Lobby Bar, we laughed at the name so hard cuz it isnt in a lobby, but it is a bar, lol. We sat with this weird mexican guy named Juan, who was funny and crazy, but all he talked about was strippers, which made for an interesting conversation. The bartender was really nice, and we went to the Blue Parrot disco with her after, her name was Pia, she is in playa on vacation too, and is from guadalajara. Ya so as i mentioned we went to the Blue Parrot, crazy sweet place, wished we had found out about it earlier.
The next day we slept in a bit (10), wondered around and caught a boat to Cozumel at 1pm (see pics)...the next portion of this day will be in the Cozumel part.
