Hale`iwa's Historic Town
August 20, 2008
I haven't been to the Historic Hale`iwa Town since 2002. Whenever I come here, most of the time I would pass through and don't get the chance to explore around. The only reason I would stop by in Hale`iwa is because whoever I was with (a relative, friend, etc.) wants to get shave ice from Matsumoto's. For the first time, I got to look around Hale`iwa's historic town on August 20 and 21. I think there were more tourists than locals in the historic town. To me, there is not much to see and do here, really.
My sister-in-law, niece, and I went to there around midday and while we were cruising through the town, the first shop that got my attention was the Smoke Shop. I don't smoke, but yes this shop caught my eye. When we stopped by the shop, it was closed. The guy (the one posing in the background in one of the pics) said it is closed every Wednesdays because they were renovating the shop.
For lunch, we ate at Kua `Aina. It was the first time trying this burger place. It is like any other burger I've tasted. Nothing special.
Then, we went to the North Shore Marketplace. Nothing much to see really. There are shops and a few art galleries.
We went to Hale`iwa's historic town again the next day and my brother joined us. First, we ate lunch at Hale`iwa Joe's. Ordering a bunch of appetizers and sharing was good enough. No entrees for me! =) I liked their appetizers. The Outside Double Up (the big drink you see in the pics) was good too... or maybe I just liked the size of it. =P
After lunch, we went back to the North Shore Smoke Shop again. They things they had in the shop includes pipes, cigars, and hookahs. Then, we went back to the North Shore Marketplace and we went to an art gallery.
After our little visit to Hale`iwa on both days, we stopped my Laniakea Beach to see turtles (see the next entry).

Just okay
This was my first time eating at Kua `Aina. They serve sandwiches and burgers. The prices are affordable, yet a bit overpriced basing on the taste of the burger I ate. I ordered a pineapple burger and a side of fries. The burger was okay and it tasted like a regular burger. I have tasted better burgers that were moist and flavorful. There is nothing special with their burger and they are not worth the price. Their fries were good though but I guess that's because I like fries. I usually like thick fries but their fries were good for thin, light, and crisp fries. Other than that, if you want to eat an overpriced, mediocre tasting burger, then try Kua `Aina. If not, then go to the closest fast food restaurant.
