Looking for a crazy spring break? Crowded beaches? Drunken college students everywhere? DON'T GO TO ANTIGUA! This peaceful island getaway is perfect for anyone wanting a low key spring break with lots of relaxation and some great sights!

Life doesn't get any better than this

When you're on vacation, are you the type of person to take it easy or try and take in every single tourist attraction? During this spring break, I am in neither category. I am beyond 'taking it easy.' I am in to the 'roll out of bed on to the deck...maybe in to the pool' category. Which thankfully, is entirely possible on this vacation. We did NOTHING today. We went to the beach, lay out, and...that's it! I didn't even open my book. I'm pretty sure swimming (and by swimming I mean sitting in the water) was the most exhausting activity all day.

The low point of the day was lunch at Castaway. Good food...miserable service. Other than that, life doesn't get any better than this. Beautiful beaches. Amazing people. And warm weather. And sun.

Miserable service but decent food
With a fantastic view and some good food, you'd think this place would be the perfect beach front restaurant but I've never had such bad service before. One meal took over forty-five minutes to get our orders in and another half hour before we got drinks. The waitress scared members of my party and if it hadn't been so convenient to eat there, I can't imagine why you would choose to go to this establishment.

I'm not sure if it was because of the group I was with (all girls, relatively young) but we were treated with such disrespect every time we ate there. It was as if we were inconveniencing this establishment.

The menu had lots of options during the day. Sandwiches, burgers, fresh fish, salads etc. There was a Chinese menu as well. Their dinner menu was very restricted and much more expensive than that quality of food warranted.
Affordable villa
Though not perfect, the villa we rented for a week is probably the closest you'll get. Located just a few doors up the road from Jolly Harbour, this three bedroom, two bath villa, though a bit small, was a fantastic choice for our needs. Right at the entrance to Jolly Harbour is a grocery store which sold almost everything you could need. Concerned that we were going to pay ridiculous amounts of money for food, we came prepared with some pasta and lots of snacks to last us the week but I think we could've done without. The prices were manageable and the produce was very cheap. Within Jolly Harbour you can also find a collection of restaurants, a casino, and expensive souvenir stores.

Usually meant for 6-7 guests, we managed to squeeze 9 girls in to this villa with a small extra fee to cover the additional girls. The villa has two queen beds, a king, and a futon as well as some extremely comfortable couches. The website describes it as spacious and I would definitely describe the common areas as spacious but the rooms were a bit tight. It could've been our large group pushing the villa to its' limit though.

The villa has a small dip pool in the back as well as comfortable deck furniture. On the deck was the grill as well as the washing machine and a closet with some beach toys for children. Indoors, there was a small kitchen as well as a very comfortable seating area with a nice flat screen TV. I think what really struck me about the place was the few simple things that really made it comfortable. In the fridge when we arrived was a welcome package which contained some local beer, bread, cheese, and butter. There may have been milk as well. It was a simple gesture but greatly appreciated. The house had a collection of DVDs and a lending library as well as board games and puzzles. Plenty of towels to go around and separate air-conditioning for every room.

Some of the downsides were the fact that the wireless did not work. We ended up just using the Ethernet cable, passing it between computers which wasn't too big of a deal. Minor but a bit annoying. Also, the bikes available for use were not ready when we first arrived so we weren't able to use them till midway through our trip. Because of the nature of the island, water was treasured and showers were quick or non-existent for fear of running out. That said, I'm not sure if we would've had the same problem with a smaller group but it is something to consider.

Those minor things aside, we had a great time and the owner of the villa was amazingly helpful before and during our trip. The welcome binder at the villa had great information about everything from activities to who to contact in an emergency!
