Map! Only in trains and that's a pity, they are pretty nice designed!
Beijing had only 2 lines for years and years, but before the Olympic Games - the metro extensions exploded like a volcano. The Chinese started to build it like crazy, they can easily beat the Spaniards in Madrid which they do!
1. "Info - forbidden"
In Beijing airport, as we landed, we found this info counter in the middle of the arrivals hall, with three of those cute small chinese women, graeting and smiling at every one. I asked for some metro maps but... at first they had no languages knowledge except 'hallo', 'yes', 'no'. I didnt even try spanish or german (tagalog wouldnt be more helpful either, i guess?). But come on, millions of ppl travel around the world without languages skills and they get what they want, mostly;) sometimes it takes just a bit longer - or cost much more (LOL) but at the end they get it.
"mountains and over clouds metro" ;)
We explained them with our small mandarin knowledge, drawing skills and some gymnastics that we need the map of the system. Unfortunately they didnt have it. [this was pretty weird - main airport in the country with tons of tourists and first: staff with no languages and second: no info available]. We took the airport express, changed for line 5 and arrived at the hostel. Then i discovered, there are absolutely no maps for the metro at any station. This info must be stricly forbidden - surprisingly in Shanghai or Guangzhou it's not forbidden!
2. "Run forest run!"
We enjoyed the evening at the Olimpic Park, visiting The Nest and the whole area, and went back, taking the '10' then '13'. It looked all normal, but it changed suddenly when we wanted to change the lines - when the line-13-train stopped, ppl started forcing the doors and running, as if they knew something that we didnt know! Or as if they escaped because of emergency. Anyway, we relized they wanted - just as we did - to catch the line-2-train, so we followed them, and the "Run Forest run!" could be heard in our heads as well.
Why all the hassle? - we saw it at the platform - it was the last train for line 2 that night! Lucky we - believing in the locals and following them is wise! ;)
