The road trip commences...

Well here we go again - another wedding trip.  This time it’s a work based event so off we went with a couple of colleagues on our first official ‘road trip’.

For some reason the wedding was in Kendal and thanks to our complete lack of organisation we had ended up booking the first hotel on the list - the Killington Lake Premier Lodge.  Little did we know of what a stunningly glamorous venue this would turn out to be.

Deciding to try and make the most of the weekend we set off early (well early ish) in order to be able to do a bit of sight seeing whilst we were there.

The drive over the Snake Pass was pleasant enough, the rain had held off so far as we sped through the Lancashire hills listening to the Stereophonics whilst I regaled everyone with the tales of my visit to the hospital the previous day (don’t ask).

Traffic was pretty reasonable aside from that hill you come to after Glossop - anyone who has ever made the trip across the Pennines on this road will know which one I mean!  Has there ever been a moment in time since that road was built when it wasn’t nose to tail in traffic? And on that basis why on earth do they feel the need for speed cameras?

Anyway - having reached the outskirts of Manchester we turned north towards out destination only to be greeted by gathering clouds the closer we got.  Was this to be a portent of the weekend to come?

Unfortunately yes as we soon discovered when we reached our lodgings...
