Tour of Prague Castle including St Vitus Cathedral and the Royal Palace and Golden Lane.

We started our tour at 8:45 am and saw glimpses of the Royal Palace and Golden Lane. We also got a good look at St. Vitus Cathedral before lunch. We didn’t see much of the first two due to the massive crowds roaming through Prague and an inaudible guide. (Instead of telling us about the buildings, she kept telling us to look out of the windows at the view.) If it’s like this in the off season, I can’t imagine how bad it is in the summer. You can’t move, you can’t see and you certainly can’t photograph around the thousands of tourists. It’s a beautiful city but I’d rather be someplace else without the crowds.

On our own, we had lunch and then visited a few churches - St Nicholas and the Infant Jesus of Prague - before going to the Mucha Exhibition. I was exhausted and we made it back to the hotel just in time to leave for a boat trip and dinner. Both were overbooked and some people couldn’t get on the top of the boat or on the terrace for dinner. They ended up touring the river from inside a hot cabin and having dinner in a room that looked like a cafeteria. Neither happened to us but, all in all, this tour company has some work to do on improving the Prague portion of its program. This makes me really glad we usually set our own itinerary rather than having someone else do it for us.
