At the beach

Finally, we scored some great weather in Puerto Viejo. We arrived in PV Thursday night. Rachael and I spent a few days in PV almost 2 years ago, and I was eager to show Tom around town. There isn't a lot of town, really, so it didn't take long, but for such a small place there are a lot of really great places to stay, eat, and kick around. On Friday we went to Cahuita (just north of PV) and did the hike through the small national park there. We saw more cool animals there than we have anywhere else on our trip - monkeys, birds, lizards, sloths, and even a eyelashed pit viper, which one of the park employees pointed out to us. He was pretty small, the color of silly-putty, and wrapped around a small shrub so that we couldn't see his head, which actually was fine with us, but it doesn't make for much of a picture.
The beaches here were storm-damaged here, too, and surf was up.
On saturday we rented bicycles and rode south to Manzanillo. Here we rented a boogie board, which was a lot of fun - the waves were just right for boogie boarding and body surfing. The ride and the beaches were incredibly beautiful, and finally the sun came out.
Today the sky was finally clear and the beach was calm and perfect for swimming. But we had to pack and catch the bus. :-( But we really love this place andare determined to come back sometime soon and spend more time here.
Tom and I are having some dental work done here in San Jose this week. Savings from having the work done here will pretty much pay for our trip. This week will be about paying our dues.
