been here in the bocas a few days. more rain, and more rain. we went to the town at the northern end of the island (boca el drago) today. the seas were high enough to flood the town and wash out the road. it was kinda cool walking around, and eating in the restaurant there, ankle deep in water.
Word to the wise: we were walking past the hospital in Boca town, and noticed that the very next building is the morgue. On the next lot is the cemetery. Hmm....one stop shopping...doesn\'t give you a lot of confidence in the hospital, does it?
yesterday we took a boat taxi to a neighboring island, Bastimentos. right after we got there it started pouring down rain, so we found a restaurant to have lunch in and then made our way back again. got soaked going over, walking around on the island, then on the way back to bocas. then the power went out around dinnertime and we had to eat in a fancy restaurant since they were open (they had a generator). We found out later, though, that our neighbor at casa max was much worse off that night - she went to the same island and got stuck there due to high seas, and had to rent a room for the night with the power out with no flashlight, candles, anything.
