States Day One

We left school a little after 12:30 with about a dozen kids, two coaches (since I had been given coverage for my last class of the day!!), two siblings, and a parent. We picked up another coach in Bowie at the McDonald's since her ride had bailed out and she had no desire to drive up on her own.
Morgan State is the largest stadium I've been in for a meet this year although some of the kids ran in a bigger venue at Penn Relays. 3A was running along with 4A which are the two larger divisions. We all had to wear bright green wristbands to be able to venture in and out of the stadium.
The 4x800 relays were up first. Our girls were supposed to come in next to last. With three of the four running personal bests (TK broke 2:30 for the first time!) they managed 15 out of 17 as well as shaving over 10 seconds off their time from regionals. The boys' relay finished fourth and earned ribbons along with points.
MA ran well in his 100m prelim. He finished second in his heat which meant an automatic advancement to finals. He ran under 11 seconds.
KH threw over 50 feet and won first in the shot put. Then we watched some 4A guys throw 52, 56, 60 feet. Amazing.
AC finished 7th in the 3200m run but set a new PR of under 10 minutes.
We stopped in Bowie for food on the way home (finally back at the house a tiny bit before 11).
