Sunset over California beach
(Jan) Flight fine. Chatting to retired man next to me who is on his way to NZ to join his wife who went a few days ago for a family wedding. He got out a strange pipe with ear phones attached part way through the flight and started 'playing' it although the sound was through his phones so I couldn't hear. It was apparently an electronic Scottish pipes! Perhaps it's a good job I couldn't hear it. 2.40am GMT LA airport. Have just cleared baggage and are having (another) Starbucks before boarding time having been dropped off by cousin Doreen and Suzie. Things we will remember from our stay: - How American it all looks! - houses, sidewalks, neon lights, fire hydrants - 'antiquated' lights in Doreen's house - earthquake precautions - Don (Grandad Walton) - Rob (dog) - How elderly they both are - Walk on the beach - dolphins, pelican, little shore birds, different lighting, sunset - palm trees - different plants - poinsettia, citrus fruits, persimmon, 'pepper' tree - Baseball stadium - Church - Christmas lights, brethren/Baptist feel, opal window, key changes for EVERY song! - Suzie - a sad feel ?concerned about her Mum & Dad. All mis Julie, Colin & Caleb who live far away up north This felt like a really nice break before the unknown with a very welcoming relaxed couple, continuous classical music, rides in big old American cars (1968 & 1985) and easy company
