Daytime views from above Queenstown
(Jan) Took our time getting up partly because our bunk room was off a dormitory of 6, most of whom were still sleeping having got in at 2am. Chatting to an Auckland guy over breakfast with a German girlfriend & an odd accent. Has a German mother and lived in India. That explains the accent.
Left our bags at the information office/bus stop whild we walked up the gondola hill (again) a different way. Lovely walk again with frequent water stops as sun hot but kept cool under trees. Saw another lovely bird with bluch head and breast. Checked out both birds later at DoC office - first was some kind of California quail and today's was a red poll. Fantastic views from the top and enjoyed watching people on the luges. Came down on gondola but realised later we needn't have paid. Never mind, win some, lose some.
Had nice lunch 'out' before bus ride of 4 hours + to Dunedin. Enjoyable conversation with Kiwi driver and Canadian who'd cycled loads in last 11 weeks and lost 2 stone (he needed to). Landscape quite different moving from extremely barren almost volcanic looking through to rolling hills alot like home.
Hostel interesting - old Salvation Army citadel but outlook to back of brewery. Doesnt' feel very friendly
