(Jan) A day of people contrasts. Woke up to pouring rain that later became torrential. Talking to an Irish family over breakfast who had taken a redundancy package, sold up and gone to explore the world looking for a better place to live. San Francisco and NZ were hot favourites but they were going back for a closer look at Australia. The little girl had liked Fiji best.
Another very scenic bus ride to Wanaka
with weather gradually clearing until bright sunshine at our destination. A very chilled place with tremendous views from the hostel (Wanaka Backpacka) over the lake. The hills/mountains are now treeless like the Lakes and Scotland in contrast to round the glaciers where bush extends right up to the snowline.
Got talking to Brits on the bus then at great length to a psychologist tonight at the hostel planning to go back to London having been living in Auckland
for a good while.
We arrived to find we've not in separate dorms as we'd thought but sharing with a German guy! Maybe 3 / 5 Peaks trips with me and load of blokes has been good practice for unusual sleeping arrangements! E-mail and mobile access at last.
Much to Rob's amusement I noted the different style electrical sockets and efficient toilet flush! Typical Maer?
