Alpine ride

(Rob) Up at 6.45 am to get the shuttle bus to train station for TransApline trip through the mountains via Arthur's Pass. Wonderful scenic views of snow-capped mountains and little hamlets/villages.
Arrived at Greymouth for approximately 1pm and wlked about 3quarters mile to our first hostel (Global Village). Very warm afternoon. Got chatting to a young bloke (Justin) from Manchester! who was 1/2 way through a trip around the world. Very chatty and enthusiastic about his travels although I suspect a little homesick at times?

There's a great old swimming baths in town built in memory of those who dies in WW2. Now that's what I call a useful memorial. The people are very friendly. Most of the shops are still shut for their national holiday but I did manage to get some more comfortable sandals.
Got to rate as one of the most b...
