Snorkeling is fun!

Coral Reef at El Palacio hotel, Hurghada (Egypt)

I used the midday breaks to snorkel at the coral reef which was a fantastic experience. It was a pity that my wife felt cold in the water (23 degrees celsius) within minutes. And she got frightened by a string-ray. So I had the privilege to snorkel at the reef daily.

It was a wise decision to bring flippers because the interesting area was huge! And it took me some time to make my way trough the coral labyrinth in the shallow water (beware of sea urchins!) to the edge of the reef. There it descended 3-7 metres to the sea bottom. Fascinating structures - and many fishes! Surprisingly I was almost the only tourist snorkelling there. Most of the other guests were sunbathing all day long. Well, their decision. If I wanted nothing but sunbathing I would definitely choose another place with a beautiful beach. Hurghada is the place for divers!

Speaking of Hurghada… . It is not what I would call a beautiful city. An incredible number of hotels have been built during the last 20 years. And many are still in the making. For this reason there are huge areas within the city which are completely filled with unfinished buildings. Not forgetting the considerable number of decayed ones. Maybe there are some pretty corners in Hurghada but I did not spot them. However I have to admit that we did not visit the city but just drove through several times.
