Beatrix - Dinant

Day 18:

Beatrix - Dinant

83 kms

During this day we cycled from Beatrix to Dinant, both cities in Belgium. We were still in the Ardennes, so there were still hills to climb. Just like the day after Cluny we cycled on an old railroad.

At a certain moment we were a bit lost and luckily an old and grey Belgian man in an enormous red Jaguar driving by that moment.

He saw that we were lost and asked if we could use his help. It was a strange guy and he looked like a guy who wanted to make money out of every situation. We didn’t trust him completely, but we needed his help. So we accepted it.

The red Jaguar sped away and we had to cycle fast. In five minutes we were on ur route and we were grateful to this guy.

About three o’clock we entered Dinant, a nice city near the Maas. We had to cycle through the whole of Dinant to find our camping site. It was on the other side. Because the weather was good, all the terraces near the Maas were full and our route was next to all these terraces. We got a lot of attention, because we were a bit strange near all the other people. We were all riding a bike with a lot of luggage.

The moment we arrived at the camping site a big surprise was waiting for us. Some old camping visitors had left their barbeque on our pitch. In less than five seconds we decided to barbeque this evening. This was a nice replacement, because in the morning we had planned a visit to the Leffe brewery. Leffe is Belgian beer and the brewery is next to Dinant. In a little village called Leffe. But the camping site manager told us that we were only allowed to visit the brewery if we had an appointment. And we didn’t have an appointment with the nuns, who brew the Leffe beer.

The whole evening we barbequed, drank some Leffe beer, wine and some soft drinks. The food was delicious and the drinks too. The moment we stopped with our barbeque it started to rain. We moved to the big tent and we talked till eleven o’clock.
