Entry into Chimney Rock
A friend and I visited Chimney Rock in North Carolina. We both loved to hike and had watched "The Last of the Mohicans" so we both knew we wanted to visit this quaint place while traveling through NC. Driving through it truly has an 18th century touch other than the cars. Getting out to explore the shops, everyone was so friendly and welcomed us . Most people live there, own their stores and sell various things such as clothes, antiques, gemstones, etc. We ate at this little restaurant that had good food and what I mostly remember is the creek behind the restaurant which was so peaceful(photos, I loved those rocks!). Then, we went to Chimmey Rock which is the main thing. There is an elevator built inside this huge mountain which resembles a chimney(see photos).

You can either hike up or take the elevator. We took the elevator. The american flag is on the "chimney". You are high above everything up there and you hike from there. I remembered watching "The Last of the Mohicans" during our daylong hike. Had an intense moment once though when I nearly slipped and looked down to see just how high we were(Very high for someone to fall!). Along our hike, we also meant this very nice couple who like us was traveling through and wanted to visit Chimney Rock. I was very impressed with the man's courage as he said he was terrified of heights and wanted to overcome his fear. He did, he hiked all the way through. The couple was probably in their late 50's or early 60's, yet the woman stayed way ahead and we couldn't keep up with her. I was disappointed though as the trail from the last scene in the movie was closed due to clearing, but other than that, we had a great time and I plan to go back sometime in the future. Next time, I want to spend a few days to a week there
