Travels
May 8, 2008
In a way, it doesn't really seem like I've traveled a lot, but I guess I have - at least in the past two years. It started with a trip to Hawaii in August, then a trip to Dublin the following spring because I thought my trip to Syria was cancelled. It wasn't, so I ended up going there as well. And how often do I get to the Middle East? I intended to make the most of it - insofar as my meager savings would allow - so I went to Istanbul and Beirut over the Eid al-Adha and Christmas holiday season. Then, when I left Syria, I intended to stay in Moscow for a week, fulfilling a 17-year-old dream of visiting Russia. I got stuck in Damascus thanks to Aeroflop, so it ended up just being a 36-hour surgical airstrike/business trip-of sorts to Moscow. No matter since I'll be going back for a year in a couple months' time, hopefully having more opportunities to explore central and eastern Europe.
I really do like America, but I wish it weren't so damn isolated from the rest of the world (that I want to see).

Riding the DC Metro smartly
Please, for the love of God, if you are a tourist in DC learn to stand on the right and pass on the left. We won't say anything if you do, but we'll be grateful. If you don't heed this advice, however, we'll get all "New York" and shout, bitch, and moan. Then we'll pray for September when you go away again.
