Peru- backpacking finally begins!

Probably should´ve written about cancun first, but basically we haven´t started backpacking until today- expensive hotels or friends places doesn´t count. Last night however we arrived and slept in the airport foodcourt... there were about 10 other people doing it so thought we were all good... woke up in the morning with the others all gone and people casually eating their breakfasts around us.. hmmm..! Got into the city which is quite frankly mad- atleast on the roads... i would definatly say these must be some of the best (if not law abiding) drivers in the world... lost count of the times i was sure we were about to crash, or just scrape or just high five another car- at one point our taxi driver even seemed to think he was a motorbike, driving down between the other lanes of cars on the highway! Other than that this is quite a nice city... feel very safe due to the rediculous amount of police everywhere (many with semi-autos- even the odd ak-47). The 'palace`downtown was even guarded on all four corners by tanks! and if tanks and ak's don't make you feel at ease than shit i don't know what will!
